Fialkowski '01 & cross-country biking partner reach JCU

Cross-country bikers Bryan Fialkowski '01(above) and his high school classmate, Kermit Cook, made a triumphal appearance on the Quad Friday evening (August 25) to the applause of students, faculty and staff members, and many of Bryan's Blue Streaks football teammates. With "only" 900 miles to go, the pair has raised about $20,000 on behalf of their Linsly, W. Va., school. John Carroll has also benefited from the nationwide exposure through a sign on the support van driven by Cook's parents. Chatting with their Carroll fans -- about a road through the Rockies with no shoulder between them and a sheer cliff, reaching 30 mph with a backwind through Montana, "bonding" with thousands of motorcyclists at a Harley Davidson festival -- they appeared seasoned and confident. "Next weekend," Fialkowski promised, "by September 1st, we'll be dipping in the Atlantic." In fact, he plans to find a pier he can ride right into the water, bike and all.
