Students from Collinwood High School began the semester working on their science experiments yesterday at their temporary laboratory -- at John Carroll. When a fire damaged their five classrooms and labs at their school last October, Science Teacher Billy Wade '00 appealed to his former JCU profs for help. Assistant Chemistry Professor Mark Waner responded, asking General Electric at Nela Park, Collinwood's community partner, to provide transportation, and inspiring his colleagues on the science faculty to provide space and supplies. Collinwood Science Chair Rosa Harris (above) guided her students in examining Mitosis and Meiosis in onions and white fish cells. Chemistry Teacher Jeff Lark (left), a master's candidate in education at JCU, briefed his 11th and 12th graders on their examination into chemical properties and bonding. |
