| The "Ecumenical
Disciples," a prominent Cleveland gospel choir directed by Gerald
Harris, presented several hymns from their repertoire in a program on
March 1, 2001 sponsored by CHAT, an organization initiated by Dr. Elmer Thames to foster
an appreciation for diversity. Rev. Valentino Lassiter of Religious
Studies followed with
a brief lecture on the importance of the Negro spiritual in American
culture and of the contribution made by groups like the Ecumenical
Disciples in keeping that culture alive. |
