JCU / national sororities, fraternities 'meet their match'

Fraternities Sororities
John Carroll students heard presentations from national sororities and fraternities over the last two weekends in a process to determine which ones would make appropriate "matches" with local Greek chapters on the JCU campus. A Carroll task force of students, faculty and administrators recommended that the university change its Greek system from one of local, autonomous chapters to chapters affiliated with national organizations. "We wanted to revitalize the Greek system at Carroll," noted Mary Ann Hanicak, director of student activities. "Affiliating with national sororities and fraternities will provide a more fulfilling experience for students here. It will also strengthen the performance of our chapters, since, in addition to University policies and regulations, they will likewise be bound by the national organizations' own guidelines that promote leadership, service and sisterhood/brotherhood while prohibiting such activities as hazing and alcohol misuse."
