Arnold Rampersad brings Langston Hughes to life

Arnold Rampersad Langston Hughes, whose 100th anniversary is celebrated this year, spent the four most important years of his life in Cleveland, where he attended Central High School and had "wonderful teachers" who helped him find his literary voice, said Arnold Rampersad, Professor of English at Stanford, in a lecture last Friday at JCU. Drawing on his two-volume work on Hughes, Dr. Rampersad explored the link between the writer's life, the Harlem Renaissance and the socio-political realties he found in the United States.
