JCU community observes nation's 'Day of Remembrance' at Mass |
|
The John Carroll community
crowded into Don Shula Sports Center at noon on Friday to celebrate Mass in
honor of the "Day of Remembrance" held throughout the
United States following the terrorist attacks this week. Father Greg
Konz SJ, homilist, recalling the murder of his brother Michael several
years ago, drew on the words of a philosopher on why God permits such
evil, saying:
"It's because God, who created us out of love chose, through his Son,
to share his love by suffering with us, suffering with the same intensity
as us." Rev. Valentino
Lassiter, Pastor in Residence at John Carroll, offered a prayer for peace
for Muslims, Jews and Christians.
In addition, the Institute for Catholic Studies, in conjunction with the Bishop Pilla Program and the Student Union, is collecting donations from the university community throughout the week for victims of the attacks and for their families. See How to Help.
Prayer for Peace "O God, you are the source of life
and peace. Praised be your name forever. We know it is you who
turn our minds to thoughts of peace. Hear our prayer in this time of
war. "Your power changes hearts. Muslims, Christians, and Jews remember, and profoundly affirm, that they are followers of the one God, children of Abraham, brothers and sisters; enemies begin to speak to one another; those who were estranged join hands in friendship; nations seek the way of peace together. "Strengthen our resolve to give witness to these truths by the way we live." |
