Father Schell thanks well-wishers
following 70th Anniversary
So many people sent "Best Wishes" to
Father Joseph Schell recently on the occasion of his 70th anniversary as a
Jesuit, that the former JCU president had to resort to a printed letter in
response. "I had hoped to write individually to each of
you," the letter read. "Shortly after I began to do this, I
realized that ... I would probably reach my next anniversary before I had
written to all of you...
"I am deeply grateful for the many years that
God has given me, for the blessing of spending 70 of those years as a
Jesuit and 55 of my Jesuit years here at John Carroll. It has been a
great privilege to enjoy the friendship of so many wonderful people with
whom I have been associated during those years. I thank each of you
for being one of those friends. May God continue to bless all of you. You are in my prayers and I ask a place in yours."
Meanwhile, Father Schell is still at
work in Campus Ministry, the organization he founded three decades ago,
planning an 8-day
Ignatian Retreat in January.
