JCU students spend alternative spring breaks

Ten JCU students spent spring break in El Salvador where they helped build a church in the village of Teosinte in the department of Chalantenango. The group included Dwight Hahn, Asst. Professor of Political Science, who provided the photographs, and Mark Falbo, Director of the Center for Community Service. (Hovering over each picture reveals a description.)

In other trips: Malcolm Smith, Director of Judicial Affairs and Orientation, and 10 students went to Brooklyn, NY, serving lunch in a soup kitchen, painting and cleaning at a homeless shelter for women, and working with children in an after-school program in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood; eleven students traveled to Trenton with Fr. Chris Fronk SJ of Campus Ministry to renovate homes and work with an after-school program; Eric Finkelstein, residence life area coordinator, took 12 students to Big Ugly, W. Va., where they helped renovate a library and worked with children in an after-school program.
