JCU wins East Region in Overtime In the NCAA Division III East Region football final yesterday (Dec. 7) in Rochester (NY), with SUNY-Brockport on the verge of victory, (top left) JCU's Joe Hunt (30) stretched out to block Mike Laney's field goal attempt as regulation time ran out. (Top right) In the overtime period Tom Arth reversed his field and swept the right side to score. The ball came loose at the goal line and the officials didn't signal the touchdown until Adam Therrien grabbed it in the end zone, but they later ruled Arth had broken the plane. (Right) Then it was the Golden Eagles' turn, but the Streaks' defense stuffed the run on 4th-and-inches at the 16-yard line to preserve the 16-10 victory. Carroll travels to Alliance Saturday (Dec. 14) for the semifinals against Mount Union. The Streaks are seeking to avenge a 35-16 loss there earlier this season and earn the right to play for the Division III national championship in the Stagg Bowl on Dec. 21. More>>> |
