Jr. and his Jazz Quintet played the Jardine Room last night (Feb. 13), featuring
Vernon Jones on drums, Skip Gipson on piano, Matthew Stevenson on bass,
himself on trumpet and Roy Valenti on vibes. Connecting the quintet's selections
with his lecture on the rich musical heritage of African Americans was Musicologist
Blanco Williams (photo at right). DeJarnette, former music director of the
Cleveland Area Arts Council, leads his Diversity Jazz and Strings Orchestra
in jazz vespers at Antioch Baptist Church on April 19. Last night's event
was sponsored by Multicultural Affairs. On February 26 that office presents
a Black History Month film festival at 7p.m. in the Lombardo Student Center
conference room and on March 13 (same time and place) entrepreneur Jennie
S. Hwang speaks on "Technology, Education and Workforce in the New
Decade" as part of the Cultural Awareness Series. |
