Carroll tops Capital, 16-6; earns NCAA playoff berth

Quarterback Tom Arth (Number. 3)John Carroll will make its first appearance in the NCAA Division III football tournament since 1997 when the Blue Streaks travel to Geneva NY to meet Hobart College this Saturday (Nov. 23). They put themselves in position to receive the "at-large" berth by defeating Capital, 16-6, last Saturday in Don Shula Stadium at Wasmer Field. The Streaks erased a 6-0 Capital lead with a strong second half, led by the running of Ryan DeGeorge (2 touchdowns, 109 yards) and the passing of Tom Arth (249 yards), who returned following a three-game absence with a separated shoulder. Despite the absence the senior (No. 3 in picture at right) finished atop the Ohio Athletic Conference passing charts. Carroll finished the regular season 9-1 overall and 8-1 in the OAC, the lone defeat coming against defending Division III champion Mount Union.
