Four
JCU professors last week looked back on the collapse of the Berlin Wall
and the reunification of Germany from the perspective of their separate
disciplines. Presenting were Matthew Berg (History), "From 'We are the People'
to 'We are One People' East German Rhetoric on Reform and Reunification,
1989/90;" K. Julia Karolle (Modern Languages), "Turning Point? An informal
Analysis of Narratives of the 'Wende;'" Andreas Sobisch (Political Science),
"Unification Plus 12 Years: Successes and Failures of the Most Expensive
Government Program in History;" and James Swindal (Philosophy), "Jurgen
Habermas and 'Working off the Past.'" The forum was organized by Student
Joseph Ptak (pictured at right at the podium), Political Science major and
President of the German Club, which co-sponsored the event with Center for
Global Education, Departments of Philosophy and Classical and Modern Languages
and Cultures, and Modern European Studies Concentration. To hear audio
