Is distance education compatible with personalized instruction, faculty advisement, academic rigor and the other hallmarks of Jesuit education?
It certainly can be, according to Dick Vigilante. He's the executive director of JesuitNET, the Jesuit Distance Education Network, a collaborative effort of John Carroll and 24 other Jesuit colleges and universities to deliver a broad range of online academic offerings.
Vigilante and Cindy Bonfini-Hotlosz, CIO for JesuitNET, presented a workshop to about 50 Carroll faculty and administrators recently at the invitation of the Graduate School and the Office of Continuing Education. This fall and next spring JesuitNET will offer online workshops that will enable faculty to design their own competency-based online courses.
