Madeline Drexler warns Tuohy audience about 'Secret Agents'
Former Clevelander Madeline Drexler knew how to get her audience's attention Tuesday evening (Mar 25) as she presented the latest lecture in the Tuohy series on "Faith in God or Faith in Science: Must We Choose?" "This year one in four of you in this room is going to be infected by something you eat." The author of Secret Agents: The Menace of Emerging Infections also covered new staph infections, the spreading West Nile virus and other dangers lurking in what we might breathe or otherwise come in contact with. In his introductory remarks, Visiting Professor Andrew Trew noted the timeliness of Drexler's presentation, holding up an editorial printed that day in the Plain Dealer, where she worked as a reporter, on SARS -- Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
