Accountancy profs testify before Select Committee on Tax Reform

State Representative Sally Conway Kilbane William Cenker
Accountancy Professors Bill Cenker (above, right), Jerry Weinstein and Bob Sullens (retired) were among the experts and other taxpayers who testified today before State Representative Sally Conway Kilbane (above, left) and the committee she chairs on tax reform. The meeting took place at CWRU's Crawford Hall. Among the points Dr. Cenker raised was the fact that taxpayers' Ohio filing status drives their federal status, a situation that complicates their filing process and increases their federal tax burden. "This has been a thorn in my side for many years," he said. At the conclusion of Dr. Cenker's presentation, State Representative Charles Blasdel II responded, "As a person who is practicing in the (accounting) field, let me just say 'ditto' to your comments." Representative Kilbane's committee is seeking to identify the strengths and weaknesses in Ohio's tax code and recommend improvements. Her husband Tom is a '63 alumnus.
