The
Bishop Anthony M. Pilla Program in Italian American Studies at John Carroll
University, on the occasion of Saint Joseph’s Day, is honoring the
Honorable Judge Salvatore and Marie Manfredi Calandra on Thursday, March
16, 2006 at 7 p.m. in the D. J. Lombardo Student Center Conference Room and Murphy Room. For many Italian Americans, the beginning of Spring is marked by the celebration of La Tavola di San Giuseppe, Saint Joseph’s Day. Since 2001, The Bishop Anthony M. Pilla Program in Italian American Studies has been celebrating Saint Joseph’s Day by honoring an individual or family that exemplifies the core qualities of Italian American life in Northern Ohio. This year we honor a couple whose lives have been spent in continual service to their community and to Saint Rocco’s parish, the Honorable Judge Salvatore and Marie Manfredi Calandara. Judge Calandra, a John Carroll graduate, is a well-known and important figure in the Cleveland Italian American society. Together with his wife, the dedicated couple has been recognized for their commitment to service with numerous awards over the years, including the Columbian Award, the Italian American Society of Greater Cleveland Award, The American Committee of Migration Award, The Cathedral Latin Alumni Association Man of the Year, Northern Ohio Italian American Award, The Presidente Award and many more. |
