Professor John T. McGreevy, Professor of History and Chair of the Department
of History at the University of Notre Dame, will be the guest of The Institute
of Catholic Studies at John Carroll University on Thursday, March 30, 2006
at 7:30 p.m. McGreevy will give a lecture entitled “Catholicism and
American Freedom.” |
WHO:

McGreevy
received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and
his doctorate from Stanford University. McGreevy now teaches history at
Notre Dame; his prior experience includes teaching history and literature
at Harvard University.
In addition to teaching, McGreevy’s interests include
U.S. intellectual and religious history, particularly U.S. Catholicism,
political culture and urban history. McGreevy is the author of Parish
Boundaries: The Catholic Encounter with Race in the Twentieth Century
and Catholicism and American Freedom: A History. He has received major
fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the Louisville
Institute and the Erasmus Institute and has published articles and reviews
in the Journal of American History, Commonwealth, the Chicago Tribune
and other venues. |
