WHAT:

Dr.
Richard T. Sylves, professor of political science and international relations
at the University of Delaware, will be the guest of the Department of Political
Science at John Carroll University on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 7:30
p.m. Sylves will be the featured speaker in the department’s 2006
Woelfl Seminar in Public Policy. Sylves will present a lecture entitled
“President Bush and Hurricane Katrina: A Presidential Leadership Study.”
In his lecture Sylves will analyze the facts of the event,
the policies and organizational alignments in place before the disaster.
He also will explore how presidents lead, manage federal officials and
how they define their policy agendas. |
WHAT:

Sylves is a professor of political science and senior policy fellow, Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, University of Delaware. He has conducted research with the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Sea Grant, and the Public Entity Risk Institute. He is an advisor to the Emergency Management Accreditation Program and was on a National Academy of Science Panel. In addition, Sylves is the author of The Nuclear Oracles and is a member of the National Academy of Science Disasters Roundtable. |
