John Carroll University Senior Wins ROTC
George C. Marshall Award

University Heights, OH -- Christopher J. Dolar of North Olmsted, Ohio, has been named the George C. Marshall Award winner from John Carroll University. Given annually, this award is presented to the most outstanding cadet in the Army ROTC program at John Carroll University. The award is named in honor of Army General George C. Marshall. Marshall served as the Chief of Staff of the Army, Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense. He was the author of the restorative Marshall Plan and was the only career soldier to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Cadet Dolar was selected for his professional excellence, leadership, personal integrity and selfless service to the nation. Dolar has been involved in numerous ROTC activities that include the Battalion Operations, Ranger Challenge, JCU ROTC Color Guard and other community volunteer support activities.

Dolar will join 272 other cadets from around the nation at the 38th George C. Marshall ROTC Award symposium in Virginia later this month. He will participate in roundtable discussions on leadership, ethics and national security with national defense and Army leaders.

Dolar, a 2002 graduate of North Olmsted High School, is the son of James and Dena Dolar of North Olmsted, Ohio. He was awarded a four-year Army ROTC scholarship and has attended John Carroll University since September 2002.

Dolar will graduate and be commissioned May 21, 2006, and will be assigned to the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course. Military Intelligence officers provide timely, relevant and accurate intelligence and electronic warfare support to leaders at all levels. MI officers lead, manage and direct intelligence planning and operations across the entire operational continuum.
The ROTC program at John Carroll University will commission 17 Lieutenants this year. The University, located in Cleveland, Ohio, is a liberal arts university grounded in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition. The university has some 3,350 plus undergraduates and just over 750 graduate students. The U.S. News & World Report’s 2006 annual college guide ranks John Carroll University among the top 10 master’s-degree-granting universities in the Midwest and first in graduation rank. Originally founded as St. Ignatius College in 1886, the university was renamed in 1923 to honor America’s first Catholic bishop, John Carroll of Maryland. John Carroll is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities located in the United States.
