Mary Doria Russell, author of A Thread of Grace

This event is free and open to the public.

WHAT:
Mary Doria Russell, a literary award winner, will be the guest of the Cardinal Suenens Center in Theology and Church Life at John Carroll University on Monday, November 13, 2006. Her novels have struck a deep chord with readers for their consideration of fundamental religious questions. The Sparrow and Children of God have been translated in a dozen languages.

Russell’s visit is part of the Suenens Center’s Fall 2006 Book Series. Attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch or to order a buffet lunch for $8.50 per person. To order lunch or to RSVP, send an e-mail to suenens@jcu.edu or call 216.397.4991.
WHO:
Mary Doria Russell was born in suburban Chicago and earned a doctorate degree from the University of Michigan. She began her career as a paleoanthropologist with specialties in bone biology and biomechanics. She then transitioned into writing computer manuals for four years before writing her novel, The Sparrow. Her latest novel, A Thread of Grace, chronicles the Italian resistance to the Germans during the last two years of World War II and the three cultures (Italian Jews, Italian Catholics, and the occupying Germans) that existed side-by-side.
