Mary
Doria Russell, a literary award winner, will be the guest of the Cardinal
Suenens Center in Theology and Church Life at John Carroll University on
Monday, November 13, 2006. Her novels have struck a deep chord with readers
for their consideration of fundamental religious questions. The Sparrow
and Children of God have been translated in a dozen languages. Russell’s visit is part of the Suenens Center’s Fall 2006 Book Series. Mary
Doria Russell was born in suburban Chicago and earned a doctorate degree
from the University of Michigan. She began her career as a paleoanthropologist
with specialties in bone biology and biomechanics. She then transitioned
into writing computer manuals for four years before writing her novel, The
Sparrow. Her latest novel, A Thread of Grace, chronicles the Italian resistance
to the Germans during the last two years of World War II and the three cultures
(Italian Jews, Italian Catholics, and the occupying Germans) that existed
side-by-side. |
