Alert *** Media Alert John Carroll Students and Alums Come Together with Hough Neighborhood Residents to Build Community Gardens “Cultivating Community Outreach Day” |

WHO:

Volunteers
range from JCU football players, Greek life, students, alumni, and members
of the Hough community. The service day will include a morning and afternoon
shift. Volunteers will arrive on site at 9 a.m. with wheelbarrows, hand
drills, lumber, soil, seeds and finish building gardens by 4 p.m.
Weather permitting, the event will be held on Saturday,
April 23, 2005. Rain date is Saturday, April 30, 2005. The Famicos Foundation,
a U.S. Housing and Urban Development Center has partnered with the Cultivating
Community class in an effort to bring different people and backgrounds
together to create a sense of awareness in the community. |
WHAT:
|
On
Saturday, April 23, 2005, an estimated 250 John Carroll students, alumni, and community volunteers will participate in “Cultivating Community Outreach Day.” This community outreach day is the culmination of a semester- long class offered through the Department of Communications at John Carroll University entitled “Cultivating Community.” The purpose of the class is to study the history, social, political, and economic aspects of the City of Cleveland through interaction and discussion with Cleveland residents and neighborhood and city leaders. On April 23, “Cultivating Community” class members will integrate the individuals and information they have learned during the semester bringing together alumni, volunteers and neighborhood residents to transform a plot of land in the Hough neighborhood into a community garden. |
