U.S. News&World Report names JCU one of
Midwest's Best

| FOR RELEASE at 12:01 a.m. SEPTEMBER 6, 2001 – U.S. News & World Report today named John Carroll University 5th best among Midwest regional universities in the 2001 edition of America’s Best Colleges, tied with Bradley University. The university has been listed in the publication’s top-ten rankings of Midwest regional universities for
13 consecutive years.
John Carroll is ranked first in average graduation rate among the top midwestern universities and second in freshman retention rate. Other areas considered in U. S. News’ analysis are academic reputation, percentage of classes with fewer than 20 and greater than 50 students, student/faculty ratio, percentage of full-time faculty, student selectivity, and alumni giving rates. “The John Carroll University community appreciates the acknowledgement U.S. News & World Report has given to the many successes evident every day on our campus," said John J. Gladstone, associate academic vice president for enrollment services. “Our graduation and retention rates continue year after year to be among the very best among all colleges and universities throughout the Midwest. We are proud of the recognition we have received from U.S. News & World Report.” U.S. News examined more than 1,400 four-year schools, divided into categories based on guidelines established by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. U.S. News’ categories are: National Universities – Doctoral, Liberal Arts Colleges – Bachelor’s, Universities – Master’s (Midwest, North, South, West), and Comprehensive Colleges – Bachelor’s (Midwest, North, South, West). |
