POWER OF PINK DAY
Breast Cancer Awareness

On Friday, October 24, 2008 join Colleges Against Cancer in celebrating the Power of Pink Day!

Power of Pink Day is part of the month-long breast cancer awareness campaign. Breast cancer is a malignant (cancerous) tumor that starts from cells of the breast. The disease occurs mostly in women, but men can get breast cancer too!*

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in the United States aside from cancers of the skin. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. About 182,460 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2008. About 40,480 women will die from the disease this year. Right now there are about two and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States.*

In the days leading up to October 24, members of Colleges Against Cancer will be selling pink t-shirts in the Student Center Atrium with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink on that Friday in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Office of Human Resources has declared October 24 a "Pink & Jeans" day for all staff and administrators.

CAC will also be distributing pink ribbons and will have literature available in the atrium that day and throughout Parents & Family Weekend.
