LUMINARIA - TO REMEMBER OR HONOR A LOVED ONE
On Saturday, April 24, 2010, a Survivorship
Ceremony will kick off the Fourth Annual Relay For Life at John
Carroll University. Relay For Life is the nationwide, signature
event of the American Cancer Society. It is an overnight community
event in the fight against cancer. As part of the ceremonies, American
Cancer Society volunteers and survivors line the track with luminaries
(lighted candles in weighted, white bags inscribed with an individual's
name). At sunset, everyone is invited to participate in the incredibly
moving Luminaria Ceremony. At this time candles are lit as all in
attendance observe a heart-felt moment of silence.
Each luminary is lit in honor of
someone who survived cancer, in memory of someone who has lost his
or her battle to cancer, or any loved one being honored or remembered
as the search for a cure goes on. The luminaries may be
reserved with a $10.00 donation. All money raised is used for research,
education, advocacy, and service programs sponsored by the American
Cancer Society.
We need everyone to be a part of the fight
against cancer in our community. Please fill out the form below
and reserve a luminary for a loved one. Luminaries can be pre-purchased
at any time, or during the Relay itself.
It's never too early to make this contribution.
Every individual can make a difference and help save lives. Thank
you!
