Relay For Life Mission Statement

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Current Relay Quick Facts

  • An estimated $420 million was raised in 2008.
  • More than $3 billion has been raised since 1985.
  • In total, 4,960 communities hosted Relay For Life events in 2008.
  • Nationwide, Relayers raised $1.40 per capita.
  • More than 3.5 million participants took part.
  • More than 550,000 cancer survivors were involved in Relays.
  • Across the United States, 190 new communities joined the Relay For Life movement.
  • Relay For Life events now take place in 19 countries outside the United States.
  • Thirty-seven corporations and their employees are part of the Relay For Life National Corporate Team Program, and they are projected to raise more than $19 million in 2008.

2009 Relay Quick Facts

  • An estimated 5,000 Relay For Life events will take place.
  • An estimated $420 million in revenue will be raised.
