GENERAL COMPLIANCE ISSUES

A funding agency will often request compliance statements (agreements to comply with certain standards) from the University as a condition of eligibility and to ensure that the funding agency is dealing with an ethical institution. Compliance with requirements can apply to all research conducted on campus (e.g. the ethical treatment of animals), or be project specific as requested by a funding agency (e.g., Anti-Lobbying).

Post award compliance clauses, which should be carefully considered before accepting the award, can include rights to intellectual property, copyrights and patents, publication, and sometimes strigent or detailed publicity requirements.

Listed in this section are the most common compliance requirements for many federal funding opportunities.
