Critiquing the Proposal
Suggested Analysis for Critique
In evaluating your proposal, keep the following questions in mind:

What is the quality of the idea? Is the topic important? Are the specific goals worth accomplishing? Does the research described hold the promise of adding significantly to our store of knowledge? |

Does the proposal make sense theoretically? Are the hypotheses derived logically from theory or from earlier research? Are there theoretical inconsistencies in the proposal? |

Has there been sufficient preliminary work to insure the success of the project? Are the measuring instruments valid? Reliable? Have the experimental manipulations been tested? Are subjects available in sufficient numbers? |

 |
Is the design sound? Will the experimental procedures lead to unambiguous results? Are proposed statistical analyses appropriate? |
|

 |
Is the principal investigator qualified to conduct this research? Are his/her training and experience adequate? |
|
|
 |
Is the budget realistic? Too high or too low? Is the likely outcome of the project worth the money? |
|
|
 |
Is the proposal clear, well written, brief and direct and does it get the reader's attention? |
|
|
 |
Have you used proper grammar and spelling, proofread the proposal and solicited assistance from others with this? |
|
|
 |
Have you complied with Government Regulations such as review by the IRB or the Animal Care and Use Committee ? |
