Online Training

Listed below are online tutorials of interest to IRB researchers and reviewers. A CD-ROM tutorial on "Scientific Ethics" from the CDC is also available.

OHRP Training
OHRP offers online Human Subject Assurance Training for IRB members.  You can take the tutorial as a guest (select "browse") or log in officially.  Three modules are offered: Federal Regulations & Institutional Responsibilities; Investigator Responsibilities & Informed Consent; and Human Protections Program Administration & IRB Responsibilities.
National Institutes of Health (NIH) Modules
The NIH offers modules for researchers receiving NIH funds and for extramural researchers: "Protecting Human Research Participants."  Registration is free.
University of Minnesota
Web based instruction on informed consent.  Separate modules offered for Health & Biological Sciences and for Social & Behavioral Sciences.
Duke University Medical Center
Research Ethics: Education and Resources offers several online tutorials including working with prisoners and children, protecting privacy and confidentiality of subjects, using databases, informed consent, as well as a basic research module.
Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center
Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to view a slide presentation for Social Scientists, Epidemiologists, Behavioral Scientists.  Clinical study information is also available.
Indiana University
Responsible Conduct of Research Module:  "Protection of Human Subjects in Research" online self-paced tutorial.
