Graduate Student Presentations

Melanie Faithwalker, a graduate student in Education & Allied Studies, presented at the Ohio Mental Health Counselors Association 2007 Chi Sigma Iota Poster Session, November 2007.

She will also be presenting a poster on “A Correlational Study of the Relationship Between Sensation Seeking Behavior, Life Satisfaction, Emotional Intelligence, and Depression” at the International Conference on Emotional Intelligence, Chicago, July 2008.

NASP Conference

Three John Carroll students presented at the 2008 National Association of School Psychologists annual convention in New Orleans. Monica Helinski, April Reed, and Sara Tyburski presented on "C.A.R.E.: Creating a Resilient Environment" on attending to children's emotional, social, psychological, and ethical needs by providing them with a caring environment to create resilient individuals.

Graduate Student Awarded Research Stipend

Nicole Pietrasiak has been awarded an additional $2,000 research stipend from the California Desert Research Fund to travel to the wilderness units of Joshua Tree National Park, California (Summer 2007) to conduct research on factors controlling distribution of microbiotic crusts. Faculty Sponsor: Dr. Johansen.

Midwestern Psychological Association Conference

Several psychology students attended and presented posters at the annual meeting of the Midwestern Psychological Association, Chicago, May 2007. Alyssa Williams and Sarah Widman received awards from Psi Chi, the National Honors Society in Psychology. Also attending were: Sarah Kuszcak, Michelle Goots, and Dana DeNoi.

ECSC Awards for Neuroscience Students

Stacey Resavage won the First Place Award for a Research Paper in the Field of Biology and Christina Pratt received the First Place Award for a Poster Presentation in the Field of Psychology at the 61st Annual Easter Colleges Science Conference in New York, April 21, 2007.

Undergraduate students who volunteered their time to the Carroll-Cleveland Philosophers' Program presented at a meeting the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain, April 1, 2006, held at Oxford University. Along with JCU faculty Dr. Jennifer Merritt (Education & Allied Studies and CCPP Director) and Dr. Paul Thomson (Philosophy), students Brittany McLane, Linda Kawental and Marie Semple gave the presentation on "The Carroll Cleveland Philosophers Program for High School Students."
