WOLFPACK SPOTLIGHT JANUARY 2008: CADET HEATHER GILMOUR

Spotlight – Gilmour

As of now, the Army does not allow females to attend Ranger school.  This policy might have to change in May 2009 when CDT Heather Gilmour receives her commission.  When it comes to physical fitness, the JCU junior performs on a level that puts most men to shame.  On her last PT test, Gilmour did a whopping 70 pushups (regular ones mind you).  As you might have guessed Heather is also a varsity athlete here at John Carroll.  One of the best swimmers at JCU, Gilmour was named OAC swimmer of the year… as a Freshman.

Hailing from Warren, OH, CDT Gilmour chose JCU and the Wolfpack Battalion because of the experience and knowledge of the cadre, as well as the quality of the Blue Streak swim team.  She stays active in the program through participation in Ranger Challenge (she’s the only female on the team) and Pershing Rifles.  Airborne-qualified, CDT Gilmour was recently honored for her outstanding performance in ROTC by being selected as one of only nine cadet marshals at the U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio in January 2008.

When discussing how being a cadet has benefited her, Gilmour says that ROTC has given her “experience as a leader” and the “confidence to take charge of any situation” that comes her way.  Gilmour is unsure of what she wants to branch at this point, but says she feels confident doing anything the Army needs her to do.
