CLASS INFO: MS I
Learn basic military skills, the fundamentals of leadership and start the groundwork toward becoming a leader.
Course Description:
Military Science 101 is one of four Military Science courses that make up the Military Science Basic Program. As part of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, an introduction to Military Science is designed to present to students issues and competencies that are essential to a commissioned officer. Topics covered include Army organization and rank structure, time management, physical well-being, leadership, and military customs. The primary method of instruction is lecture, but students are expected to complete the assigned readings and be prepared to participate in class discussions and practical exercises.
Enrollment in this course by a non-contracted student does not obligate the student to the military or the Army ROTC program.
Course Objectives:
- Identify the US Army and ROTC organization and rank structure
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of an officer
- Describe the significance of military traditions
- Implement time management techniques
- Assess personal physical well-being and fitness
- Identify ways to manage various types of stress
- Develop an understanding of Army leadership
- Identify and understand Army Values and the Warrior Ethos
