A few dedicated, hard working,
and persevering students who had an
interest in rowing started the John
Carroll University rowing club in
the fall of 1992. The first year involved
an incredible amount of ground work
for both the team and the foundation
of the club. JCU Rowing practices
on the Cuyahoga River, which is in
downtown Cleveland. The team is a
constituent of the Cleveland Rowing
Foundation and use their boathouse.
This relationship assisted in getting
the team on the water since they did
not have their own boats at first.
After a year of building the club,
the first competition JCU participated
in was the Cleveland Sprints in the
fall of 1993. The rowers enjoyed growing
with the club in all aspects.
The dedication of the numerous officers
and coaches throughout the years,
has fostered the growth and success
of the team. This team was created
for the students and by the students,
and each and every rower has contributed
a special aspect to it. Perseverance,
hard work, and passion will always
prevail with the growth and history
of this club.
