With the departure of Kevin Vignale
and Courtney Price from the coaching
staff, new alumni have stepped up
to fill the open positions.
Phil Taneyhill (’07) will take
over the novice men this year. Phil
had a successful career at JCU. He
rowed at the varsity level all four
years at JCU. He sat stroke his senior
year and lead the varsity men’s
four to their highest finish at the
Head of the Charles regatta. Phil
spent much of his time at JCU involved
in crew, as an officer on the team’s
board, as a rower and as captain.
Phil’s leadership skills on
and off the water will help him to
achieve great success as a coach.
Julie Rees (’06) will take
over the novice women this year. Julie
spent four years as a coxswain after
rowing in only one race. Julie coxed
the novice women to several medals
in her first year at JCU as well as
a place in the semifinals at the Dad
Vail regatta. She then went on to
cox the varsity men, where she led
the men to several solid finishes.
Julie’s command of the boat
on the water as well as her leadership
skills off the water will lead Julie
to great success with the novice women.
This will mark the first coaching
experience for both coaches.
We wish them the best of luck this
season.
