View Days [+] | December 4, 2009 to December 4, 20091:30 PM to 4 PM Spots Still Available MALACHI HOUSE (12/4 OTP) Malachi House
NOTE: This is a restricted activity and only open to students in Dr. Lissemore's Biological Consequences of Poverty class.
Founded in 1988, Malachi House is a private, non-profit home for poor, terminally ill persons with six months or less to live. Residents have no able or willing caregiver, no medical insurance, and little or no financial resources; many come from difficult environments. Malachi House offers residents a private room in a warm, secure environment; home-cooked meals; and the love and support of trained staff and volunteers, who are available 24 hours a day. Medical needs are provided for through a hospice team, which visits the house regularly. All services are provided to Malachi House residents absolutely free of charge.
Service participants interact with the residents of Malachi House by helping to prepare and serve the noon meal, and then joining the residents for lunch. If time permits, participants may then share in a game of cards, assist with tidying a room, or just sit and converse with a resident.
IMPORTANT: Please note that Malachi House is a hospice-type facility, and some residents may be quite ill. Understandably, the ability of service participants to interact with the residents will be dependent upon their health at the time of service. Should residents not be up to visitors, service participants may be given other tasks in support of the work of Malachi House (light cleaning, making up rooms, preparing lunch trays, etc.). | November 20, 2009 to November 20, 20092:30 PM to 4:30 PM Spots Still Available FATIMA GIVING TREE PROJECT (NOVEMBER 20) One Time Projects and Special Events
