VITA PROGRAM AT JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people (generally, $42,000 and below) who are unable to prepare their own tax returns. The VITA program focuses on helping families who may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC is a major way to help alleviate poverty among greater Clevelanders.
Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations.
The Center for Service & Social Action and the Boler School of Business will sponsor two “Super Saturday” events on February 7 and March 14, during which eligible workers can come to John Carroll to have their 1040, 1040-A, or 1040-EZ federal forms completed (along with state and city returns) and filed electronically.
Any eligible person who wishes to have their taxes prepared through the VITA program at JCU can call 211 or 216-436-2000 to make an appointment.
Trained volunteers are also needed to assist at the other VITA events listed below. Please consider providing this much-needed assistance to friends in our communities!
