Description:
The Cleveland Police Department estimates that it receives 2,000 calls a month related to domestic violence. The mission of the Domestic Violence Center is to empower individuals, promote justice, and mobilize the community so that all people are free from violence and abuse in their relationships and homes. The Domestic Violence Center offers comprehensive, coordinated programs and services that address the immediate and long-term needs of domestic violence victims, their children and abusers.

What we do there:
Service Participants will work independently in the youth program; activities can include reading, arts and crafts, playing on the playground, games, or other group activities.

NOTE: Service participants for this activity should have a commitment to the welfare of women and children, and must understand the importance of not discussing the location of this service site. 

The Cleveland Police Department estimates that it receives 2,000 calls a month related to domestic violence. The mission of the Domestic Violence Center is to empower individuals, promote justice, and mobilize the community so that all people are free from violence and abuse in their relationships and homes. The Domestic Violence Center offers comprehensive, coordinated programs and services that address the immediate and long-term needs of domestic violence victims, their children and abusers.

Service Participants will work independently in the youth program; activities can include reading, arts and crafts, playing on the playground, games, or other group activities. Age ranges of the children can vary, as the population will change over the course of the semester.

NOTE: Service participants must be self-starters; able to work well independently and initiate interaction with children in the shelter. All applicants for this activity are screened. Service participants who register for this activity must:

  • Complete this application and email it to tpatterson@jcu.edu by Monday, September 14th
  • Agree to participate in a phone interview prior to the start of the activity

Failure to complete these requirements will result in removal from the activity.
