St. Francis School

7206 Myron Avenue
Cleveland ,  OH  44103

Phone: (216) 361-4858

Description:
St. Francis School is a K-8 Catholic school in the inner city of Cleveland. St. Francis provides a quality education to low-income urban children. The school is under the direction of the Sisters of Notre Dame and has recently been named by the Gund and Cleveland Foundations as a "Cleveland school that is making a difference." A key initiative at the school is the PeaceBuilders Program, a nationwide anti-violence youth program which creates a safe and warm environment where education is the focus. St. Francis School partners with parents to provide a caring environment where students can learn gospel living, gain a quality Catholic education, and witness a non-violent way of life.

What we do there:
This service activity involves weekly tutoring of at-risk children in the third and fourth grades. Under the direction of St. Francis teacher (and JCU alum) Scott Embacher, participants help the St. Francis students to build confidence, to develop an eagerness to learn, and to be prepared to meet the challenges of school and to experience success.
