Chambers Elementary

14305 Shaw Avenue
Cleveland ,  OH  44112

Phone: (216) 268-6640

Description:
Chambers Elementary School serves children in grades K-6 in the East Cleveland City School system, whose mission is to "provide the children of East Cleveland with the academic and life skills needed for each and every one to be a success in the 21st Century." Once a thriving community (and still home to 18 of Cleveland's "Millionaires' Row" estates), East Cleveland has struggled with economic and political challenges for many years, and census data indicates that over 45% of the city's children live below the poverty line.

What we do there:
Service participants at Chambers Elementary are assigned individually to classrooms, where they work directly with students under the guidance of the classroom teacher. Service participants may request to be placed with students in a specific grade. Typically, service activities at Chambers Elementary involve working one-on-one with students or in small groups, providing assistance with math skills, reading literacy, or other needs as identified by the teacher.
