The Thea Bowman Center (TBC) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to be an ongoing beacon of hope to the Mt Pleasant Community. TBC demonstrates its commitment to the people of the community by:
Helping people by encouraging and enhancing healthy relationships.
Organizing programs of assistance and mentoring.
Promoting empowerment of the community.
Educating people through social, health and wellness, cultural, and spiritual activities.
What we do there:
Service participants are able to assist in a variety of activities at the Thea Bowman Center. Those assisting in the Pre-School program work with children ages 2-5 on educational computer programs. Those assisting with aftercare programming provide homework assistance and tutoring to children in all grade levels. Service participants assisting on Saturdays may help with children's programming and be engaged in arts and crafts, yoga, drumming, martial arts, chess, or other enrichment activities; others may assist in the preparation and serving of the weekly hot meal.

Service participants are able to assist in a variety of activities at the Thea Bowman Center. Those assisting in this activity help with children's programming and may be engaged in arts and crafts, yoga, drumming, martial arts, chess, or other enrichment activities.
NOTE: Participants should be "self starters," comfortable with stepping in and engaging with children in an open, free-flowing type of setting. (Participants are typically NOT given specific tasks or detailed instructions at this site.) |
