Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center (FFTRC) is a nonprofit organization that provides equine programming for people with cognitive, social and/or physical disabilities. Through horseback riding, students can improve physical and social skills along with increasing self-confidence and more. FFTRC serves the largest number of students of any premier NARHA (North American riding for the Handicapped Association) accredited program across the country.
Service Participants will partner with learning-disabled children from Cleveland Public Schools in equine activities. Volunteers assisting as horse handlers will lead the horse; sidewalkers assist the student with physical or verbal assistance during the lesson. Ground lesson volunteers will work with an instructor and students in non-mounted activities where students learn horse care (parts of horse, grooming, stall cleaning, etc.), and do arts and crafts.
IMPORTANT: This activity will need to have 4 or more registrants in order to go forward.
NOTE: In order to participate in service at Fieldstone Farms, volunteers MUST
- complete this application form and liability waiver (which gives FFTRC permission to conduct a background check on you)
