What we do there:
Service participants at Huron Hospital assist in a variety of activities. Weekly service opportunities involve inpatient care with patients as well as participating in the "Reach Out and Read" program in the Pediatric Waiting Room. Monthly participants assist with the "Stork's Nest" program in providing child care to the children of expectant parents who are attending parenting workshops and other hospital programs.

- Complete this application and waiver to allow Huron Hospital to run a background check and email it to tpatterson@jcu.edu by Monday, September 14th.
- Arrange to have a 2-step TB test at JCU's Health Services office (216.397.4349). There is NO CHARGE for this test.
- Attend all training sessions.
In addition, participants should read the Volunteer Guidelines for Huron Hospital.

Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a national nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud in pediatric exam rooms across the nation. The ROR program provides the tools to help promote children's developmental skills and later school success.
Service participants in this activity will read to children in the Pediatric Waiting room at Huron Hospital, modeling book-sharing techniques for parents and showing them by example that reading aloud is fun for parent and child.
NOTE: In order to participate in service at Huron Hospital, volunteers MUST:
- Complete this application and waiver to allow Huron Hospital to run a background check and email it to tpatterson@jcu.edu by Monday, September 14th.

- returning medical equipment, conducting clerical assignments, assembling patient admission packets
- providing other support services as requested by appropriate staff
