Description:
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is committed to modeling and teaching Catholic morals and values while creating a warm, kind and respectful environment that honors the dignity of each individual. St. Thomas Aquinas promotes academic achievement and spiritual development that will help students influence the world in a truly Christian manner.
St. Thomas Aquinas School, in the inner-city of Cleveland, serves 230 predominantly African-American children in grades K-8 from the Hough, Glenville, and Superior/St. Clair neighborhoods. Almost 90% of the students live at or below the poverty level and come from single parent homes. Despite the difficult situations from which they come, St. Thomas Aquinas students strive for academic excellence and work to meet the high goals set for them by their parents and school faculty.
What we do there:
Service participants for this activity assist with the AfterCare Program, which is open to all students whose parents work or are otherwise unable to care for them after school. Service participants assist with homework, tutor, and join the children in basketball and other recreational activities.
