Service participants in this activity will serve dinner at the shelter and eat with the men there.

IMPORTANT: This activity involves direct interaction with men who are experiencing homelessness.  Participants must be able to initiate and engage in conversation with this population. If you are uncomfortable with this requirement, please select a different activity.

DESCRIPTION: Participants in this activity join teens and young adults with disabilities in "Pizza Bowls" in which all participants join in adaptive bowling, interacting, and just having fun! These programs involve participation with  individuals with physical, sensory, or developmental disabilities; service participants should be patient and understanding. Service participants who are uncomfortable working with this population are encouraged to select a different activity.

All students who are accepted for this service activity will be required to:

1. Make an intentional effort to interact with adaptive participants, not just with other JCU volunteers. The success of the program depends upon participants of all abilities interacting together.

Full details on these requirements will be provided upon registration. Failure to comply with them will result in removal from the activity.

Description:  Participants in this service activity will provide in-class assistance to teachers and work primarily with special needs children in Monarch's School of Autism.

NOTE: This activity is RESTRICTED to students in Dr. Chase's Psychology of Autism class.

NOTE: All students who register for this service activity MUST:

1. Register for and attend a Pre Service Orientation Session the week of January 28th.
2. Interview and go through volunteer screening at Bellefaire JCB.
3. Participate in service and sign-in each week at the site.

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in removal from the activity.

SERVICE TYPE: Health Care

IMPORTANT! Service at The Free Clinic is by arrangement only. Days, times, and types of service activities available will vary, but will always entail weekly service. Transportation is NOT provided.

Students who are interested in serving at the Free Clinic are encouraged to contact the Center for Service and Social Action at service@jcu.edu. 

Only those students who have been APPROVED by the CSSA office may register for this activity.

All students who are accepted for this service activity will be required to:

1. Register for and attend a Pre-Service Workshop.
2. Complete an application form and upload it to their participant profile.
3. Attend a training session at the Free Clinic.
4. Participate in weekly service at the site.

Description:  Participants in this service activity will provide in-class assistance to teachers and work primarily with special needs children in the preschool.

NOTE: Transportation is NOT provided to this activity. This service opportunity is within walking distance of JCU; most students are able to walk to this site in about 15 minutes (view a map here).

In addition, participants should remember to sign in and out on the Participant Service Hour Tracking form at Gearity EVERY time they participate in service. Failure to do so will result in not getting credit for service time or in removal from the activity.

NOTE: All students who register for this service activity MUST:

1. Register for and attend a Site Orientation Session the week of January 28th.
2. Participate in weekly service and sign-in each week at the site.

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in removal from the activity.

SERVICE TYPE: Youth Programming, Grade School 
PARTNER: Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland

Service participants in this activity assist Boys & Girls Club youth who may have some difficulty in completing homework assignments. Participants will also assist program staff in facilitating such activities as basketball games/tournaments, kickball, fitness challenges, board game tournaments, and arts and crafts.

All students who register for this service activity will be required to:

1. Attend a Pre-Service Workshop Session the week of January 28th. 
2. Complete a waiver and agreement to submit to a background check and upload the completed waiver to their participant profile by Wednesday, February 6th.
3. Participate in weekly service at this site.

Further details about these requirements will be provided upon acceptance/registration. Failure to complete these requirements will result in removal from the activity.
