Dr. Paul F. Lipold jointed the John Carroll faculty as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Fall of 2005 shortly after having earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from Florida State University in the Summer of 2003/ Dr. Lipold was born and raised in Greater Cleveland and performed his undergraduate work at the University of Toledo, where he earned a double-major in sociology and history before pursuing his graduate career at Florida State. His doctoral training included a major-area concentration in Sociology of the Political Economy and minor in Stratification/Inequality, as well as extensive training in comparative-historical methods.
At present, Dr. Lipold is pursuing a promising research agenda derived from his dissertation entitled, Laying it All on the Line: The Configuration and Causes of Strike Fatalities in the United States, 1877-1947, wherein he explores the causes, consequences, and implications of violence in U. S. labor-management history.
