In 1989 the
Department of Sociology at John Carroll University, in conjunction
with the Diocese of Cleveland, established the Fr. Segundo Montes
Memorial Lecture series to commemorate the martyrdom of six Jesuits
and two women who were murdered on the campus of the University
of Central America in El Salvador.
This 2007 lecture was co-sponsored by the
Cleveland Commission on Catholic Community Action of the Diocese
of Cleveland, the Department of Sociology, the Institute of Catholic
Studies, the Jesuit Community, the Office of Student Life, Campus
Ministry and the Center for Global Education at John Carroll University.
The
19th Annual Segundo Montes Lecture was presented on Monday November
12, 2007.
Fr.
Joe Callahan, JCU '79, Alumni Medal Recipient '06, spoke on his
experiences in El Salvador as a member of the Diocesan team for
17 years. His lecture "Pastoral Reflections: The Impact of
The University of Central America Today" expressed his thoughts
and observations resulting from his ministry at the University a
generation after Montes.
Please
