The Cardinal Suenens Center identifies for itself the following goals:
-
To draw in its work on the sources of the Roman Catholic tradition, with the Scriptures pre-eminent among these, as well as on the teachings of the councils, especially those of the Second Vatican Council.
-
To study the achievements and heritage of Vatican II and the historical background for that council.
-
To be attentive especially to the reception of the as yet unachieved goals of Vatican II and to find ways through symposia, publications, and meetings to increase understanding and pursuit of those goals.
-
To foster awareness of and commitment to the Council of the new generations as yet unlearned regarding Vatican Council II.
-
To further ecumenical and interfaith advances of Vatican Council II through respectful dialogue.
-
To bridge conversation between church leadership and the theological community.
-
To remain committed to Gospel justice for the people of God.
Implementation
The Cardinal Suenens Center implements its goals through publications, symposia, meetings, The Margaret F. Grace Annual Lecture, the bi-annual designation of a recipient of the Cardinal Suenens 'Living Water' Award, and our website.
