Walsh Jesuit High School Principal appointed as
 Dean of Student Development
at John Carroll University

University Heights, OH- Reverend Jim Prehn, S.J., will join John Carroll University in a newly created position, Dean of Student Development.  He will begin his duties in August 2007. Father Prehn comes to John Carroll from Walsh Jesuit High School, where he served as principal for the past six years.

In his new role at John Carroll, Father Prehn’s responsibilities will include the supervision of campus ministry, liturgical music and musical arts, and residence life. The goal of his work is to help create and sustain a vibrant community for students living on campus. He will also explore and initiate programs and services to further the spiritual development of all students.

Father Prehn earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Oakland University, Master of Arts in Philosophy from Fordham University, Master of Divinity from Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, and Doctor of Education in School Administration from the University of San Francisco.  He recently pronounced his Solemn Final Vows during the October 2006 visit of Fr. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., the Superior General of the Society of Jesus.

The Dean of Student Development position at JCU is made possible, in part, by recent funding from the Jesuit Community to assist in hiring Jesuits who can contribute to the mission of John Carroll University.

John Carroll University, located in Cleveland, Ohio, is a liberal arts university grounded in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition.  The university has some 3,100 plus undergraduates and just over 700 graduate students.  The U.S. News & World Report’s 2007 annual college guide ranks John Carroll University among the top 10 master’s-degree granting universities in the Midwest and first in average graduation rate.
