Dear Colleagues and Friends,
As we wrap up a full and meaningful semester, I am grateful for the many ways you continue to advance the mission of the College of Health. This month's newsletter highlights several accomplishments worth celebrating. Our Exercise Science program earned recognition from the NSCA's Education Recognition Program, and the generosity of Mary Jo Casserly Hogan, Class of 1976, and her husband, Patrick Hogan, is making an immediate impact on JCU EMS with the donation of a medical golf cart to support student response teams on campus. We are also proud to highlight important scholarly work from our Counseling Department faculty whose research is elevating trauma informed and culturally responsive practice.
Thank you for the care, energy, and expertise you bring to our students and to one another each day. Your commitment is what makes this community remarkable.
Wishing you a restful and joyful holiday season.
With gratitude,
Melissa Cole, DNP, APRN, ANP-BC
Dean, College of Health

JCU EMS Receives Medical Cart Donation

Mary Jo Hogan and Patrick Hogan
|
The College of Health and JCU EMS extend their appreciation for the generous philanthropic support of Mary Jo (Casserly) Hogan '76 (ret., US Army) and her husband, Patrick Hogan, who have graciously donated a medical vehicle to the organization. Their generosity is already enhancing JCU EMS's ability to transport supplies efficiently across campus. The new vehicle has improved coverage of club sports events and streamlined the movement of essential equipment.
We are deeply grateful for supporters beyond the John Carroll community who believe in the mission of our student-led JCU Emergency Medical Services. Your generosity strengthens our work, and on behalf of JCU EMS members and the College of Health.
Mary Jo and Patrick Hogan's donation underscores the value of philanthropy in supporting our mission of providing exceptional healthcare education and service. Their gift is already making a difference in the lives of our students and the broader community.

Exercise Science Department Receives ERP Distinction from the NSCA
The Exercise Science Department was recently recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association's Education Recognition Program. This distinction demonstrates that the curriculum of both the graduate and undergraduate programs in exercise science is rigorous enough to prepare students seeking to become strength and conditioning coaches and personal trainers for the NSCA's industry leading certifications.
The ERP distinction also is recognition that JCU is committed to providing students with a high quality, well rounded education in exercise science. Additionally, being part of this program will enable our students to receive discounts on certification and professional conference costs, as well as be eligible for scholarships.
