John Carroll’s highly personalized Pre-Medical Post-Baccalaureate program is ideal for individuals with a bachelor’s degree who wish to fulfill missing prerequisite requirements or need to enhance academic performance for admission to medical and health professional programs. 

With guidance from our experienced and dedicated team, you’ll build a customized course of study that will help you  meet the minimum requirements for admission to the program of your choice, whether it is medical, dental, veterinary, podiatry, pharmacy, nursing, certified anesthesiologist assistant, physician assistant, physical therapy, or another health professions pathway.

Students with undergraduate degrees in biology, chemistry, or other natural sciences can complete the Pre-Medical Post-Baccalaureate program in about a year; those without college-level science coursework typically take two years.

Certificate of Excellence Option

Earn a JCU Certificate of Excellence in Pre-Medical Studies by completing 26 credit hours and maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.5. This extra credential will help you stand out.

To apply to the Pre-Medical Post-Baccalaureate program, you need:

  • an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • an undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.0

The following documents are required for a complete application: 

  • Online application
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Resume/CV
  • Two letter(s) of recommendation 
  • Statement of purpose - in 400-600 words, explain your aims and goals for the program
  • Faculty interview

Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis. Due to the customizable nature of the program and sequential coursework, your starting semester may be based on course offerings and prerequisites. 

For best consideration, applications for specific terms should be received by the following dates:

  • August 1: For a Fall semester start (most typical starting semester)
  • December 1: For a Spring semester start
  • April 1: For a Summer semester start (online Physics I and II only)

Cost & Tuition

Tuition for the Pre-Medical Post-Baccalaureate program is charged by the credit hour. The cost of attendance will vary based on each student’s individual needs and circumstances.
