Please extend your congratulations to JCU’s CFA Challenge Team on winning this year’s local competition. Our team members are: John Paul Chalhoub, Douglas Moore, Sergiy Pyda and Andrew Siciliano.

The Challenge competition is global in scope and provides a real-world approach to asset valuation and financial analysis. According to the CFA Institute “The event provides hands-on mentoring and intensive financial analysis training. Students form teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company and compete with students from other schools on a local, regional, and global level.”

The local competition began last fall and culminated on February 26 in a virtual setting where our team defended their position, a buy recommendation, before a panel of three industry practitioners. The firm under consideration was Peoples Bancorp, a community bank based in Marietta, Ohio that operates in Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

Next steps will be to compete in the regional level and if successful on to the Americas and lastly the global competition.

Boler CFA Challenge Teams have won an unprecedented four consecutive local competitions. We have also won five of the last seven local competitions.

Our gratitude goes to Tony Aveni and Jisok Kang for serving as advisors to the Challenge Team.

We wish them continued success at the Regionals!
